Clinical Research and Development
The Clinical Board are passionate about encouraging and supporting clinical research. We drive the creation of new knowledge, directly relevant to clinical practice in response to our teams’ needs, to progress care both within the group and the broader profession. We are committed to delivering evidence-based care, so our teams can use the best information available to make informed decisions for the animals we care for.
All our research comes from ideas in practice that our teams want to focus on because there is a knowledge gap and as a big group it is possible to do research on a large scale.
‘Carrying out research in practice can be very challenging due to the constraints on our time. The advantage of being part of VetPartners is that the central team provide support and expertise in areas such as study design, data analysis and writing up the research.
This allowed me and my colleagues in practice to focus on collecting data in the field.
I really enjoyed our recent project and feel that it has provided a meaningful contribution to our understanding of Udder Cleft Dermatitis, while also increasing our engagement with farmers in this area.’
Will Gratwick, MRCVS, LLM Farm Vets

We welcome collaboration with like-minded people, to contribute to the evidence base for the benefit of the whole profession.
You can learn more about our main research projects below:
Clinical Research Projects
Small Animal
Project DRAPES: Our first randomised controlled trial across VetPartners practices, which started in 2022, aims to see whether using disposable drapes in routine surgeries gives different patient outcomes compared with using washable, reusable drapes, which have less lifetime environmental impact.
Farm Animal
Project FEET: This project explores how the whole mobility team (farmers, foot trimmers, veterinary surgeons and veterinary technicians) perceive the pain associated with various lameness-causing conditions and make choices about managing these conditions, including when and whether to use NSAIDs.
At VetPartners we are fortunate to have an engaging and approachable Clinical Board Support Team (CBST) with both clinical and extensive research experience. To learn more about the work of the CBST and how they empower our teams to undertake clinical quality improvement and research, click here.
