Director of Clinical Research and Excellence in Practice

After qualifying as a vet in 1996, I gained diverse clinical experience many different clinical settings including small animal, dairy and mixed general practice as well as referral, academic and charity practice. I have also spent significant time in veterinary teaching and research.

I was the founding director of the Centre for Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham, where I was also Associate Professor of Feline Medicine. I was founding President of the Association of Charity Vets and I’m Editor-in-Chief of the BSAVA’s Manual of Shelter Medicine. I’ve authored many scientific papers, clinical articles and chapters for text books.

I hold a Masters in evidence-based medicine, a PhD in epidemiology, a Diploma in feline medicine, and I am a senior fellow of the HEA.

With two young sons, I spend a lot of time covered in mud, playing football and building LEGO Super Heroes. I love live music and like to run (slowly), read books and I’m never happier than when in the company of good friends.

As Director of Clinical Research and Excellence in Practice and chair of the VetPartners Clinical Board my focus is all about how we progress care together with our awesome clinical teams in practice. The Clinical Board is a diverse inclusive community within vetPartners who work in areas like Quality Improvement, clinical CPD and clinical research. Together with other teams we work to enable our colleagues to work in a supportive environment and provide outstanding care for the animals and clients they care for.
