VETS working in VetPartners practices now have access to advanced veterinary neurology advice after the launch of a new service across the UK and Europe.

Vets Kali Lazzerini and Francois Liebel, who are both RCVS and European specialists in veterinary neurology, have joined VetPartners.

Based in Switzerland, the experienced team are available on email, telephone or video to advise on small animal neurology cases, and discuss patients undergoing the investigation of spinal, intracranial and neuromuscular disorders.

They will be able to share their experience on the investigation and treatment of conditions including intervertebral disc disease, wobbler syndrome, neuromuscular disorders, intracranial neoplasia, inflammatory disorders of the central nervous system, spinal fractures, dog and cat seizures and more.

The new service will be available to VetPartners clinical teams working across the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal.

Both Kali and Francois are fluent in English and French. Kali also speaks German and Spanish.

Advice on case management

Kali said: “We will be able to advise vets on neurology cases, blood results, radiography, advanced imaging and look at videos of patients. We can answer questions and advise on case management. We can help to advise if they are unsure if a case should be referred or what more can be done in practice.

“For example, when a patient comes into your practice after suffering an unusual episode, it can be difficult to decide how worried you should be. Vets can now email us, and we can direct them to make the best plan for that patient.”

Francois added: “Having another clinician to talk to is really helpful when you have difficult cases. It reduces the stress of dealing with uncertainty and helps you make decisions faster while offering a great opportunity to learn.

"Epilepsy management is a good example: it can be hard finding the right balance between controlling seizures and having side-effects from the drugs. We can advise on the best approach for the patient based on the information you give us and our experience.”

The service will be introduced initially as a free six-month trial for practice teams.
