Each New Year brings a fresh opportunity to evaluate your career goals and aspirations. It’s a time for reflection and reassessment, to look back at the past year’s successes and challenges, and to look forward with a clear vision and purpose.

In the same way you set personal resolutions, setting workplace resolutions can help you enter the year with a renewed sense of purpose and direction.

Here are 10 inspirational New Year ideas from Fiona Nichol, left, VetPartners Group Director of Training and Development, to help you thrive in 2025….

1.     Consider your own personal values and they will help you to chart the right course to pursue heart-felt goals that align with VetPartners’ values and those of your practice.

2.     Take time to consider what you want to achieve during 2025 before you have your PDR so you can set clear goals with your line manager.

 3.     If you’re feeling inspired to learn more, do some research into which qualifications are most suitable and relevant to your role and of benefit to your practice. Find out more about how much commitment, time, resources and investment they will require, and you’ll be ready to discuss them with your line manager.

 4.     Take advantage of some great further learning resources on VetPartners Learning. They may help you to explore development topics and interests you have and inspire your next stage of learning.

5.     As well as developing your own career, think about ways you can share your skills and experience with others. Coaching others, mentoring a new graduate or allowing someone to shadow you can be hugely rewarding for you and beneficial to your colleagues and practice.

6.     Careers Pathway is a valuable tool to discuss skills, competencies and behaviours with your line manager to review progress in your current role and any future progression that might be relevant.

7.     Reach out to colleagues who inspire you. Who do you admire in your practice or at VetPartners or in the wider profession? Contact them and ask for advice and ideas on how you could emulate their skills and career journey.

8.     Consider attending industry events and congresses, such as BVNA, London Vet Show, BVA, to gain a broader insight on topics and areas of development that are happening in your role which could benefit you and your practice.

9. Talk to your Business Development Director or line manager about the VetPartners central development programmes, such as Senior Leaders, Developing Leaders and Client Matters.

10.   Collaborating with others within the group is a great way to develop your skills, knowledge and opportunities. VetPartners runs a variety of regional events, including Senior Receptionist Thrive, Nurse Thrive and regional meetings, which are open to colleagues and provide ideas and inspiration.
