A NEW approach to our 2025 mental health training will be launched in January.

The training will open up greater opportunities for people to support themselves as well as colleagues experiencing or living with mental health conditions.

VetPartners Mental Health Training Pathway has been developed to offer everyone an opportunity to complete mental health training and develop further knowledge.

From raising awareness of how individuals can look after themselves to supporting senior leaders to develop protocols, strategies and practical tools for supporting their team members, it is hoped the new training will help to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health in the workplace.

The training pathway also offers a steer towards a more collaborative approach rather than individuals having sole responsibility for team mental health.

There will be four levels of training, from foundations courses held every quarter for all practice roles to level one, two and three training which are aligned to the career pathways training through our Mental Health Matters and Senior Leaders courses.

A new approach to Level 1 training is being rolled out across the UK, with the first session at our headquarters in York on January 22nd. Throughout 2025, there will be events in the Midlands, London, North East, Ireland, North West, South East, Scotland, South East, South West and Wales.

The three-hour face-to-face sessions open to those in experienced roles with line manager responsibilities who are starting or wanting to develop a preliminary understanding of how to manage mental health and wellbeing needs within teams.

VetPartners hopes those attending will achieve the following outcomes:

  • An understanding of stress, burnout and compassion fatigue

  • Be able to identify two common mental health conditions, depression and anxiety, and discussing common signs and symptoms

  • Learn how to start a conversation and the importance of signposting to resources

  • Understand the professional support available and how to report mental health support needs within their team

  • Discuss the importance of developing positive workplace cultures and setting goals

VetPartners Mental Health Trainer Tessa Beecroft, pictured, said: “We are offering a comprehensive programme so everybody can access some level of training which means more people can have conversations in the workplace around mental health.

“The courses will also give confidence to employees who are living with or experiencing mental health conditions as it empowers people to support themselves and others. It will also raise awareness of mental health conditions the majority of the population are living with. One quarter of the population live with a mental health condition so we’re not alone and it is okay to talk about without fear of consequences.”
