THE achievements and progress of our clinical teams have been highlighted in our newly published 2023 Clinical Board report.

Among the highlights of the annual report, written by our Director of Clinical Research and Excellence in Practice Rachel Dean and her Clinical Board team, are:

  • Ongoing reduction in antibiotic use across VetPartners’ UK practices while still protecting great clinical outcomes.

  • Exciting clinical research programme with prizes awarded for excellence in clinical research to vets and veterinary nurses, including Liphook Equine Hospital equine nurse Phillippa Pritchard, who is part of the team behind Project NURSE.

  • Growth of our Clinical Interest Groups and more and more people getting involved in our clinical community.

  • Creation of numerous evidence-based resources to support our practice teams, review new medicines on the market and address any knowledge gaps.

VetPartners is progressing the responsible use of antibiotics in UK veterinary practices amid the ongoing global threat of antimicrobial resistance and damage to the environment.

Between January and June 2023, the group bought 2,987kg of antibiotics for use across its UK practices compared to 3,037kg in 2022 and 3,070kg in 2021 – that’s just over 1.5kg of antibiotics per full-time equivalent vet.

Rachel said: “We have continued to monitor our baseline data on the overall use of antibiotics within the business in the UK, as well as focussing on specific drugs, for example critically important antibiotics. This is amazing ongoing progress and we applaud all of our teams for their role in this work.”

Other key highlights of the report show how VetPartners has 32 active Clinical Interest Groups, held 56 clinical meetings, developed 77 clinical decision making resources and involved 685 people in its clinical community.
