A VETERINARY receptionist who lives and breathes VetPartners' values by going above and beyond without being asked has been rewarded with a Nettie.

Julie Allen, pictured left, who works at Shearbridge Vets in West Yorkshire, is among our latest monthly winners of a Nettie for displaying our values of being respectful, supportive, dedicated, approachable and collaborative.

Julie stepped in to help run puppy parties when the practice was short of nurses, giving up her Saturday in the process.

She also regularly grabs a mop to clean floors, sorts the washing and ensure nurses are not overwhelmed with work. On top of that, she is always on hand to make a cuppa to keep her colleagues going.

Colleagues nominated her for a Nettie and we are delighted to reward Julie with a £250 Love2Shop voucher, a cuddly mascot and a certificate.

She is not the only receptionist who has been rewarded for demonstrating our values.

Gemma Kydd and Wendy Lyon, who work at Parkside Vets in Barnhill, near Dundee, have been rewarded for their care and kindness in helping a family whose elderly mother’s health was sadly declining.

Colleagues nominated them for a Nettie for their role in helping to rehome a dog whose owner was too unwell to care for him.

The elderly client’s daughter wanted to ensure the best possible home for Leo and contacted Parkside Vets to ask about vaccinations. She initially spoke to Gemma who arranged his vaccinations and asked whether they were looking for a foster home or someone to adopt the 13-year-old. They then spoke to Wendy, who managed to find him the right home. After Leo came in for his vaccinations, the team had given him a complimentary wash and nail clip – a gesture that was beyond what the family expected.

Kindness and care

Wendy found the perfect match for Leo and, in an email, the family wrote: “The kindness, care, and efficiency shown by Wendy and the entire Parkside Vet team have made a world of difference to Leo, my mother, and our family. Your team has had a significant positive impact on our lives, and we will always remember how you helped us and Leo. Your compassionate care and swift action has helped us immensely during this difficult time, and we truly cannot thank you enough.”

Vet Jess Reader is described by Park Vets colleagues as the embodiment of our values and someone who goes above and beyond for her clients and patients.

So much so, she is the most requested vet on the diary. Recently, she visited a colleague’s home to see her dog which had mobility issues and couldn’t get to the practice.

Living on a farm, she often brings in bags of fresh vegetables for colleagues and ensures there is a huge cake for team celebrations.

Senior admin Jade Emery said: “Jess’s kindness, dedication and generosity make her an invaluable part of our team, and she truly deserves to be recognised with a Nettie. She should know just how amazing she is!”

Caroline White, a senior RVN from Galedin Vets, encourages school children to find out more about life in practice by visiting local schools and careers fairs. The children are thrilled to dress up in scrubs, bandage their teddies and view x-rays, while learning about what it takes to become a vet or veterinary nurse.Caroline’s community work led to colleagues nominating her to win a Nettie.
