VETERINARY Nurse Eimear Thornton has certainly had her hands full lately!
Eimear, who works at Riverview Vets in Cork, fostered and hand-reared two two-week-old kittens before finding them a home.
On top of that, she has also undertaken a feline dentistry nursing course, and it has helped her practice to increase their use of their dental x-ray machine.
Now, Eimear has been rewarded with a Nettie for demonstrating our values of being respectful, supportive, dedicated, approachable and working collaboratively.
Every month, we honour 10 colleagues across the VetPartners family and present them with a £250 Love2Shop voucher, a cuddly mascot and a certificate.
Riverview Vets practice manager Paula Woulfe, who nominated Eimear for a Nettie, said: “Eimear is quietly confident, a great team player, a fantastic colleague and he client relationships are second to none.”
The care and kindness shown by a receptionist to the shocked owners of a dog that had been attacked whilst out walking has led to her being rewarded with a VetPartners Nettie.
Lancaster Vets reception team leader Suzi Snowdon is among our latest winners after helping the owners of a Bedlington Terrier that had been attacked by another dog close the practice.
Renowned for her rapport with clients, Suzi went above and beyond to help.
While her colleagues dealt with the emergency, Suzi supported the owner who fainted in the waiting room following the traumatic experience. After helping the owner while she came around, she sat talking to her and holding her hand for reassurance, while dealing with other clients in reception.
She escorted the owner back to her car, but found the owner’s husband having a panic attack. Suzi ran back into the building to grab a paper bag which she used to help her calm him.
Lancaster Vets deputy head nurse Clare Burrows, who nominated her colleague for the Nettie, said: “Although still very shocked by what had happened, the owners were much calmer, thanks to Suzi's quick actions and kind demeanour. Suzi really is a gem, and we are so lucky to have her in our team.”
Coastway Vets veterinary nurse Claire Potts has also been rewarded with a Nettie for showing kindness and compassion to a client who collapsed and suffer a seizure.
Claire rushed around the reception counter and caught the client before she hit the floor, put her immediately in the recovery position and monitored the client until the paramedics arrived. The whole time she was reassuring and supporting the client, who went on to make a full recovery.
Ashlands Vets vet Amy Sansby attended a serious road accident involving a horsebox with two horses and a dog and was joined by members of the Aireworth Vets team who have previously been rewarded with Netties.
Tamy attended to the dog which sadly had to be euthanised. The owner was understandably distraught and was struggling to return to the practice where her dog had died.
Kind Amy, going above and beyond, offered to take the dog’s ashes to the owners usual veterinary practice, 30 miles away, on her day off.
Ashlands Vets practice manager Ben Ogden said: “Amy demonstrated care and compassion for a pet owner who has no affiliation to the practice and is a shining example of why this profession should be proud.”
New graduate vet Annabel Bench is described by her Aireworth Vets colleagues as the embodiment of our values of being respectful, supportive, dedicated, approachable and working collaboratively.
She has worked with Matthew Dixon, who nominated her, on some challenging cases and has worked incredibly hard and delivered the best possible care – with a smile on her face.
Another team member who is renowned for keeping spirits up is Armac Vets receptionist Jack Badger.
Colleague Charley-Jayne Bather, who nominated Jack, said: “He is a true asset not only to our team, but also to VetPartners, for how well he lives up to the values set for him.”
Lynwood Vets vet Emily Hellewell and veterinary nurse Demi Courtenay-Lewis gave up their weekend to help a colleague’s cat which suffered a sudden, unexpected critical condition.
They went above and beyond to support their friend.
We’ve also rewarded our Pet Health Plan coordinator Maisie Brown with a Nettie. She always goes the extra mile to provide exceptional support to practice teams with new resources and enhanced ways of working.
As well as exceptional organisational skills, she has supported a new colleague in PHP team to help her to flourish.
If you know of someone who demonstrates all of our values and deserves a Nettie, you can nominate them here on MyVetPartners or email recognition@vetpartners.co.uk
Explain to us how they demonstrated our values and why they deserve an award.
